Hi there,

I am Kay Kerr—a freelance writer and author based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. My latest book, a narrative non-fiction titled Love & Autism, is out now with Pan Macmillan. It is an exploration and celebration of autistic lives, as well as a return to my journalistic roots. I now have a new book in the works, tentatively scheduled for early 2026 release.

My debut contemporary Young Adult novel Please Don’t Hug Me came out in 2020 with Text Publishing. I was writing my first draft of this book when I received my autism diagnosis. Autism and wider disability representation in YA fiction is something I am passionate about. My second novel Social Queue came out in 2021, and it is a romantic coming-of-age story with an autistic teenage girl at the heart of it.

Writing and publishing books is a dream come true, thanks to my brilliant literary agent Danielle Binks at Jacinta di Mase Management.

My work can also be found at The Guardian, SBS Voices, Lunch Lady, Peppermint Magazine, POPSUGAR, Organic Gardener, Daily Life, Broadsheet, ABC, and more. Read more of my work here.

'Beautiful, nuanced and heartwarming, Love & Autism is an immersive, joyful read about life and love through an autistic lens. Kay Kerr gives us a wonderful and frank front-row seat to what it means to be autistic and to love, affectionately and refreshingly told from a neurodivergent perspective. A masterclass in narrative non-fiction and longform journalism, Love & Autism takes us on a journey of joy, heartache and hope, connecting us all through our shared love of love.'
